Social work

The conception of education and the graduate's profile in the scope of SOCIAL WORK major. The graduate of the pedagogy faculty, specialization of social work, in accordance with the Act of Parliament on social help, will be professionally prepared to work in a social worker occupation.

Social work means related to each other and well planned actions led by social workers in cooperation with a supported person. They serve preventing forming and solving social problems as well as activating individuals and groups to mutual help.

Graduates of the specialization will know and apply modern achievements in the field of social psychology, negotiation techniques, interpersonal communication, sociology, psychology and informative technologies which will allow them to give help to individuals, groups or communities to enrich or rebuild their ability of social functioning as well as to create favourable social conditions.

The graduate will be prepared for the social worker occupation (specialization number 346104 in the Decree of Minister of Economy and Work of 8 December 2004 on jobs and specializations qualification for the needs of labour market as well as the range of its applying).

The graduate will master skills in perceiving and independent solving theoretical and practical problems in the scope of his specialization and he will be also directed towards undertaking the following professional actions:

 • making analysis and evaluation of phenomena which cause demand for providing help of social services as well as qualifying to obtaining these services;

  • giving information, advice and help in the scope of solving people’s life problems, thanks to which they will be able to solve problems being the cause of their difficult life situation on their own;

 • effective use of legal regulations in realization of their tasks;

 • offering people being in a difficult life situation guidance relating to possibility of solving their problems and providing help by proper state, self-governmental institutions and non-state organizations as well as support in getting help;

 • giving help in accordance with the principles of professional ethics;

 • support or endeavour to restore mutually profitable interactions between individuals and society in order to improve the quality of life;

 • stimulating and strengthening social, individual and collective, self-resourcefulness for which local governmental, council and non-governmental institutions should be support, stimulating social activity and inspiring self-help actions to satisfy indispensable needs of individuals, families, groups and social communities;

 • cooperation with other specialists in order to counteract and limit pathology and results of negative social phenomena, softening results of poverty,

 • initiating new forms of help for people and families having difficulties as well as inspiring founding institutions providing services whose purpose is improving life situation of such people and families,

 • participating in inspiring, working out, initiating and developing regional and local programmes of social help directed towards increasing the quality of life;

 • revealing, analyzing and interpreting social needs having influence on creating proper inter-human relations, improving the quality of life as well as overcoming and positive solving social problems;

 • pointing at gaps and shortages in valid social legislation and postulating necessary changes;

 • initiating and participating in studying social problems (diagnosis of needs),

 • monitoring and evaluation of programmes and actions;

 • endeavouring to improve the quality of services and systematic improving professional qualifications through participation in different forms of training and self-study.

 Social work is realized in the frames of social, environmental (in the place of living) and institutional help. Graduates will realize their tasks in social help centres (municipal, communal, province), social departments and personnel offices in firms, psychological-pedagogic advisory institutions, school and students careers offices, non-governmental organizations taking part in programmes of active fight against unemployment, police and municipal guard units.

The specialization of social work aims at preparation of professional social services, which with their area of activity, comprise both the sphere of education and also widely understood social help. Providing help for people to gain skills in solving their own problems, and also a skill in dealing in different situations, help for individuals to get suitable means, support and facilitating social interactions are the main aims of social help. Education of students prepares them to future professional work in the character of a social worker.
