The conception of education and the graduate's profile in the scope
of the LOGOPEDICS majors. The graduate's profile and the conception
of education, and also the plan and programme of the studies for the
logopedics major are the original programme by prof. dr hab Zbigniew
Tarkowski, a founder of the ‘ORATOR’ Foundation in Lublin. A
graduate gains a professional title of licentiate.
He
will acquire general pedagogical, sociological and psychological
knowledge indispensable for understanding a social-cultural context
of education, upbringing or care work as well as constructing his
own professional development. He will also master practical skills
in the scope of social communication, using diagnostic techniques,
enriching and improving his knowledge and competences in the scope
of practical working as well as creating his own methodical base.
The studies are the basis for gaining reliable professional
preparation, developing the ability of a reflective look at his own
professional role as well as deepened understanding of educational
reality.
On
the basis of these competences in the scope of the ‘logopedics’
major the graduate will be prepared for a teacher - speech therapist
occupation (specialization number 235903 in the Decree of Minister
of Economy and Work of 8 December 2004 on the job qualification for
needs of labour market and the scope of its applying) or a speech
therapist - specialist of health protection (specialization number
223904 in the same Decree).
According to the Decree of Minister of National Education and Sport
of 7 January 2003 on the principles of giving and organizing
psychological-pedagogical help in public kindergartens, schools and
institutions..., teachers possessing preparation in the field of
logopedics or school logopedics / paragraph 7.1.3 / can run
specialist logopedic activities for children and pupils with
disorders of speech. These disorders disturb linguistic
communication and make learning difficult.
In
relation to the above mentioned Decree of MENiS / paragraph 15.5 / a
graduate of logopedic licentiate is to be prepared to perform a
speech therapist’s tasks such as:
•
carrying out screening tests,
•
organization of logopedic help,
• logopedic
diagnosing,
•
conducting logopedic individual and group therapy,
•
organizing logopedic help for children with difficulties in reading
and writing,
•
prophylaxis of linguistic therapy disorders,
•
supporting actions of teachers, tutors, psychologists, pedagogists
and doctors working with people with speech disorders.
To
enable the graduate of ‘pedagogy’
faculty, ‘logopedics’ major to fulfill above mentioned tasks, he has
to learn basic practical skills such as:
•
distinguishing speech from linguistic norm,
•
defining etiology of speech disorders,
•
diagnosing and classifying different speech disorders,
•
estimating the level of speech development,
•
prognosing development of speech disorders,
•
preventing deepening of speech disorders and their psychical and
social consequences,
•
stimulating development of speech, which is delayed or was stopped,
•
learning different programmes, methods and techniques of speech
disorders therapy,
•
communicating with people with speech disorders and their leaders,
•
learning principles of voice emission and hygiene,
•
providing competent, extra-logopedic help for people with speech
disorders and their
leaders,
A
graduate with a title of licentiate in the scope of logopedics will
be prepared on a level matching the European standards and he will
be a conscious professional who:
•
has the feeling of logopedic occupation identity,
•
knows and follows the principles of ethical code of a speech
therapist occupation,
•
understands the need of professional improvement and continual
education,
•
takes care about professional and social image of a speech
therapist,
The ‘pedagogy’ faculty, ‘logopedics’ major prepares graduates to
work in a sector of services demand for which is continually
growing. It creates the possibility of continuing education on the
MA level or postgraduate studies.
